AGBT Precision Health 2026

Clinical-implementation, translational-genomics, and precision-medicine dossiers from the AGBT Precision Health Meeting (a.k.a. AGBT-PM) — San Diego, CA, September 14–16, 2026.

Status: Pre-meeting (T-4 months as of May 11, 2026). This vault is being scaffolded from the official conference site, the Inside Precision Medicine 10-year retrospective, and 2025 recap coverage. Full per-talk dossiers will be filled in once the agenda lands and during/after the meeting. AGBT-PM, like the main AGBT General Meeting, uses a partially-closed abstract policy — concurrent-session abstracts are visible to attendees, not posted publicly — so the build approach is the same "one degree removed" sourcing used in the AGBT 2026 vault: vendor PR, trade-press recaps, podcasts, society press releases, and PI-affiliated press.

Why this is in the vault

AGBT-PM is the clinical / translational spinoff of AGBT. Where the main AGBT General Meeting is a platform-launch showcase (sequencers, spatial instruments, chemistry kits), AGBT-PM is where those platforms get used in patients: rare-disease diagnostics, newborn screening, MRD monitoring, liquid biopsy, biobank-scale population genomics, and pharmacogenomic implementation.

  • Downstream of AGBT 2026 platform launches — Roche Axelios, Element VITARI, Ultima UG200, PacBio CiFi/SPRQ-Hq, Oxford Nanopore PromethION cfDNA/cfRNA all targeted clinical workflows in their pitches. AGBT-PM is where the clinical evidence (or lack of it) for those platforms gets aired.
  • Adjacent to ASCO 2026 and ESMO 2026 liquid-biopsy and MRD trial reads — AGBT-PM sits between technology meetings (AGBT, ASHG) and oncology meetings (ASCO, ESMO, SITC), and recurring presenters here often have read-outs at all three.
  • Complements ASHG 2026 — ASHG is the academic human-genetics venue; AGBT-PM is the clinical-implementation venue. Same investigators, different framing.
  • Pulls from AACR 2026 liquid-biopsy posters — Guardant, Natera, Personalis, Tempus, Foundation Medicine all show clinical-validation data at both AACR and AGBT-PM in a given year.

Start here

  • Per-program dossiers — one page per clinical study, biobank initiative, real-world implementation program, or precision-therapeutic case (rare disease, MRD trial, population genomics rollout, gene therapy n=1). Built post-meeting.
  • Program notes — confirmed dates, organizing committee, speaker lineup, sponsor list, source aggregators, and dead ends.

Confirmed details (per agbtprecisionhealth.org, fetched May 2026)

  • Dates: September 14–16, 2026
  • Venue: San Diego, CA (specific hotel TBD; 2025 was Loews Coronado Bay Resort)
  • Theme: "Defining the Future of Precision Medicine"
  • Scale: 300+ attendees, 13+ countries, 35+ speaker sessions, 15+ networking hours (per organizer projections)
  • Registration: "Opening soon" as of May 2026
  • Abstract policy: Closed-ish (concurrent abstracts attendee-only); plenary speakers public

Anticipated themes (from 2025 / 2024 carry-over + 15 confirmed speakers)

Based on the 2025 program structure and the 15 already-confirmed 2026 speakers, the anticipated tracks are:

  1. Rare-disease genomic diagnostics & GREGoR Consortium — Heidi Rehm, Monica Wojcik, Theodore Drivas, Niall Lennon (Broad) are confirmed; this has been the spine of AGBT-PM since 2016.
  2. AI in clinical genomics — Alexis Battle, Sara Mostafavi (DL-for-genomics); 2025 emphasized "post-hype" validated patient outcomes, expect that framing to continue.
  3. Precision therapeutics & n=1 / in-vivo editing — Fyodor Urnov, Kiran Musunuru (CRISPR for individualized therapies); 2025 featured Ben Kleinstiver on the first patient-specific in-vivo gene-editing therapy and this thread is expected to extend.
  4. Population genomics, biobanks, & implementation — Gonçalo Abecasis (Regeneron Genetics Center), Marylyn Ritchie (MUSC/eMERGE), Jenny Taylor (Oxford Genomic Medicine); UK Biobank / All of Us / 100,000 Genomes Project read-outs.
  5. Newborn / prenatal precision sequencing — Diana Bianchi (NICHD), Monica Wojcik (Boston Children's); BabySeq, NewbornsInSC, and rapid-WGS in NICU contexts.

Adjacent recurring tracks expected (not yet sourced to a 2026 speaker): liquid biopsy / MRD (Guardant, Natera, Personalis vendor-track), pharmacogenomics implementation, and payer / reimbursement sessions.

All themes above are anticipatory based on confirmed speaker affiliations and 2025 program shape. Treat as forecast, not commitment. Revisit when the full agenda lands.

Scientific Organizing Committee (per agbtprecisionhealth.org — partial list)

  • Eric Green (NHGRI) — long-running co-chair
  • Michael Talkowski (MGH / Broad) — founding co-chair
  • Wendy Chung (Boston Children's) — co-chair
  • Gail Jarvik (University of Washington)
  • Stephen Montgomery (Stanford)
  • Heidi Rehm (Harvard / Broad)

(Full 10-member committee not enumerated on the public landing page as of May 2026.)

Program shape (historical)

AGBT-PM has run a consistent 3-day format since 2016:

  • Opening pre-conference workshops — skill-building / hands-on (rotation: variant interpretation, AI tools, regulatory pathways).
  • Plenary sessions — invited speakers across rare disease, AI, therapeutics, population genomics, implementation.
  • The Great Debate — a recurring AGBT-PM tradition: two sides argue an unresolved clinical-genomics question (recent topics: WGS-as-standard-of-care, AI in variant calling, return-of-results policy).
  • Concurrent abstract sessions — selected oral talks (closed abstracts).
  • Storytelling / patient sessions — a distinctive AGBT-PM feature.
  • Trainee / mentoring track.

Caveats

  • Pre-meeting forecast. Everything in this vault except confirmed dates, venue, speakers, and committee members is reconstructed from 2025 program shape and is subject to change once the 2026 agenda is published.
  • Abstracts are closed-ish. Like main AGBT, AGBT-PM does not post a public abstract book. Post-meeting build will rely on vendor PR, trade-press recaps, podcasts, and speaker tweets/blogs.
  • AGBT-PM is clinical, not technical. Do not expect platform-launch announcements here (those happen at the General Meeting in February). Expect: trial read-outs, biobank progress reports, implementation case studies, payer/regulatory talks, and patient-family stories.
  • No public abstract submission deadline has been surfaced as of May 2026 — historically abstracts close ~6 weeks pre-meeting (late July/early August expected for 2026).
