Session 10 — Pre-Cancer Atlas¶
Series: 2026 SITC Computational IO Series, session 10 of 10 Date: TBD — not scheduled as of 2026-08-25 Moderator: Carsten Krieg, PhD — Medical University of South Carolina (Committee Co-Chair) Faculty: A. Hunter Shain, PhD — University of California, San Francisco Recording: SITC OnDemand after delivery Status: Unscheduled
What the session covers¶
The pre-cancer atlas concept: charting the molecular and immune landscape of lesions before they become malignant. Shain's group works on the genomic evolution of melanoma from precursor lesions, which is one of the clearest worked examples of stepwise progression from benign nevus to invasive disease. Inferred from the speaker's field; confirm once scheduled.
Why it matters to this corpus¶
- The capstone of the immunoprevention thread the series opens with — session 1, session 2, and session 3 all address the pre-malignant window from different angles; this one is the atlas that would organize them.
- Atlas-building is a corpus-native topic. The single-cell atlas machinery covered in
single-cell-genomics-2026/and SCGD26 is the same technology, pointed at precursor lesions rather than tumors. - A genuinely under-covered axis. No existing vault holds pre-malignancy material. If this corpus grows an immunoprevention thread, this session is where it should start.
Open items¶
- [ ] Watch for scheduling. This is the only session without a published date; check the series page periodically.
- [ ] Capture the recording once delivered.
- [ ] Confirm whether the talk is melanoma-specific or presents a pan-tumor atlas effort.
