Day 3 — Friday Sep 19, 2025

Day 3 was a half-day designed for synthesis and community: one keynote, a flash-talk reel, Birds-of-a-Feather huddles, and the closing. After two front-loaded days of new packages and dense short-talk sessions, the format shifted from broadcast to conversation — which is where Bioconductor as a project actually maintains itself.

Morning

Jacques Serizay's Enhancing genomic research with community-driven flexible software anchored the day. The title is the meeting's closing thesis: Bioconductor's value isn't any single package, it's the coordination mechanism — peer review, release cycles, vignette standards, books, workshop platforms — that lets ~2,300 packages cohere. Serizay's own work on BiocBook and tidy-genomics packages embodies the argument.

The 09:30 flash-talk block followed — short pitches that typically map onto poster-session highlights and previews of next year's short talks. (Specific flash talks to be filled in once the program is cross-checked against the recap; treat each as a candidate to fold into the tools index if a package emerges.)

Afternoon

The 11:15 Birds-of-a-Feather sessions were the day's working session — small-group huddles around topics the community self-organizes (typical themes at past EuroBioCs: spatial-omics standardization, single-cell interoperability, training and onboarding, infra/devops, multi-omics integration). BoFs are where the next year's working groups, joint reviews, and cross-package coordinations actually start. They don't show up in the recap photos but they are often where the meeting's biggest medium-term outcomes originate.

The 12:45 closing wrapped the meeting — typical agenda: thanks, awards, next-meeting handoff (BioC2026 location announcement, GBCC2025 cross-promotion).

Posters & social

Day 3 had no formal poster slot — the second poster session on Day 2 was the last. The closing lunch and informal hallway conversations served the social function.

What to chase

  • Serizay's slides — the BiocBook + tidy-genomics framing is the closing argument and worth a primary read; pairs naturally with the Day 2 Workshop Platform talk by Mahmoud.
  • The flash-talk list — once posted, every flash talk that names a package is a candidate row for the tools index.
  • BoF outcomes — the Bioconductor Slack / Zulip threads that follow EuroBioC by 1–2 weeks usually surface the working groups that formed, and any new cross-package coordination commitments.
